Michelberger Hotel: Review

Berlin, Germany

Michelberger Hotel captures the essence of individuality that instantly draws people to Berlin.

Immediately upon arrival, visitors are captivated by the overall feel and design of the former factory-turned-hotel. The Michelberger is a multinational hub where locals and tourists work, play, and experience the hotel's unique offerings. The cozy rooms are functional, with additional features such as saunas, fireplaces, and minibars available in upgraded rooms. Throughout Germany, the service is generally slower and less attentive than in the United States, but the staff at the Michelberger is an exception. Every time I visit I am treated like a friend and given suggestions of places to go in the city.

The hotel cafe (which opens at 7 AM) offers free wifi and is not overcrowded, so it is a good option for coffee meetings or working solo. At 5 PM, the cafe turns into the hotel wine bar, a great spot to start the night where you can meet interesting people. The cafe and bar have a tasty select menu with vegan and vegetarian options, but visit the hotel restaurant for the complete dining experience. The restaurant menu is seasonally driven and has a lovely outdoor seating area (also used as a concert venue) where guests enjoy food from the hotel’s Michelberger Farm (located about an hour away in Spreewald) and other local producers.

The owner's intentional design choices have continued to foster a community of creatives. The hotel hosts events around art, people, wellness, and more. Additionally, Michelberger Hotel would make an excellent venue for your next event. There are five meeting and event spaces on the property. I recommend checking out the Whiskey Room (30 seated guests) for more intimate dinner/brand events and the Backstage (50 seated guests) and Underlook Rooms (100 seated guests) for personal and corporate events because they're genuinely flexible canvases that you can transform to fit your event needs.

Located in the Friedrichshain neighborhood, known for its creativity, diversity, nightlife, and culinary scene, the hotel is a perfect budget-friendly option for adults traveling solo or with a group. Depending on when you visit the hotel, it can be loud at night (events, street noise, etc.), especially if you're not used to living in a lively city, so consider that when booking your stay. The hotel is near the Warschauer Straße U-Bahn station, making it easy to travel between East and West Berlin, and if you get a Berlin Welcome Card, you can get access to free public transportation and discounts throughout the city. Michelberger Hotel's nearby attractions include:

  • The Boxhagener Platz area (a local hotspot)

  • The Eastside Gallery (a 10-minute walk)

  • RAW-Gelände (a 7-minute walk) and other nightlife attractions such as Matrix Club (7-minute walk), Berghain (12-minute walk), and more.

The hotel provides an authentic Berlin experience without having to leave the property. With an ideal location and an inspirational community, this hotel is worth frequenting.
